MELLAH YESTERDAY

Following the unflinching 'Easy Breezy' and it's contemplative follow up 'Heaven Only Knows', Mellah (aka Liam Ramsden)'s new EP 333 (Them) is crucially completed by a pensive third single, 'Yesterday'. Lyrically questioning social veneers, Ramsden says: “‘Yesterday’ is about small talk. The chit chat to avoid silence or worse still, honesty. ‘How are you’ has always seemed like a fruitless question to me, it rarely invokes a genuine response and is really hard to answer.” Sonically smooth and pristinely produced, Ramsden's impressive vocal melodies carry the composition as the gradually building instrumentation transports the piece from sombre slow-burner to danceable alt-pop anthem. Snapping into an addictive chorus, sliding, pitch-shifted guitar lines lock in with a groove-driving bass line as Ramden's double tracked vocals tickle your ear drums at the periphery of the mix. Listen to 'Yesterday' and the rest of 333 (Them) at your earliest possible convenience. -Holly Mullineaux
